The Male Volleyball Team of University of Energy and Natural Resources emerged champions of the maiden edition of Sompa Tertiary Games held on Saturday, July 15, 2023, with Obed Sarfo adorned as the best male volleyball player in the tournament. The UENR Team was represented by Prince Kwabena Agyapong, Owusu Y. Desmond, Amo Ntow Samuel, Kyere Lord Peter, Owusu Nketia Bless, Safi Ebenezer, Yeboah Evans, Abdulai Haruna Kwasi and Princeford Akomea Adjei.
Three (3) tertiary institutions; University of Energy and Natural Resources (UENR), Sunyani Technical University (STU) and the College of Health, Yamfo competed in Football, Volleyball, Table Tennis and Basketball. The College of Health (CoH), Yamfo were declared winners of the football competition.
The Ag. Director of Sports and Recreation Directorate, Mr. Armoh Ebenezer K., expressed his satisfaction with the performance of the volleyball team and commended them for the splendid performance that they displayed. He then advised them to eschew laziness and train well in winning more of such competitions in projecting the image of the University. Mr. Armoh also urged the athletes to intrinsically motivate themselves to achieve the ultimate in their chosen sports discipline.
STU were declared winners of the Table Tennis competition with their ladies winning the Volleyball competition. Ms. Akona Hafsah of STU won the female best volleyball player. The Teams were presented with variety of products from Promasidor, the leading provider of high-quality food products across in Africa.
